Huangjisoo Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser (Anti-Aging / Pollution) Review

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Prior to this cleansing foam, I was not familiar with the Huangjisoo brand at all. It was founded by the Korean Dr. Huang Ji Soo whose mother had atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Dr. Huang Ji Soo wanted to create products that could treat skin issues in more natural ways without relying on strong prescription medications; her brand is for everyone, including people with skin conditions like her mother’s (personal note - please see a dermatologist if you have serious issues that require medical attention).

In Korean beauty, a foaming cleanser is used in the morning (alone) and in the evening (either alone or after a cleansing foam) to remove impurities and cosmetics residue.

This Huangjisoo foam is:

  • Made from 98% natural ingredients

  • EWG (Environmental Working Group) certified as green/safe - any product certified in this way has to go through rigorous testing for safety of the ingredients

  • Hypoallergenic - formulated for ultra sensitive skin and extensively tested

  • Cruelty free - Huangjisoo does not experiment on animals

  • Safe for pregnant women (please check with your doctor if you are unsure)

The product has a neutral pH that helps maintain a healthy skin barrier. It comes in two sizes - 180 ml and 30 ml and is available on* eBay and Amazon, including a gift set of the small sizes in every variety.

What this cleanser promises to do:

  • Form a barrier to protect against dust and pollution of an urban life (great for the morning wash)

  • Prevent photoaging (premature skin damage from the sun)

  • Soothe and nourish the skin for a bright and healthy appearance

The instructions are simple - pump into the palm and gently massage over face, rinse with water. If I’m using it in the morning, then I use it by itself, but if it’s at the end of the day, I use a cleansing oil first. The brand has other cleansers in this line: anti-trouble, brightening, moisturizing, and deep clean. The manufacturer says that the different types can be mixed for a truly customized experience for your needs.

Active ingredients:

  • Sodium cocoyl apple amino acids - soften the skin, support a healthy barrier

  • Majorana leaf oil - a natural antibacterial and antioxidant component to clean and protect the skin

  • Cactus, lavender, and broccoli - anti-inflammatory ingredients to heal the skin and keep it hydrated

  • Omija - a medicinal berry that can detox and make skin more radiant and vibrant

  • Hyaluronic acid - attracts moisture to the skin

  • Schisandra chinensis fruit extract - brightens the skin tone, supports collagen production, helps the skin maintain an optimal pH level

My impressions:

I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-to-normal cheeks. Just about every morning I get up at 5:40am (is that even morning? I think it’s still night) and work out. Since my carpet is 90% sweat by now (thanks, p90x3 and Insanity), I use a foaming cleanser to wash all the post workout gunk off my face. I don’t think just water would be sufficient.

This Huangjisoo cleanser is very convenient since it foams itself (great in the mornings when I’m barely awake). It forms a very gentle, fluffy foam that cleanses well without over drying the skin. The scent is interesting - very crisp and somewhat medicinal/herbal but not unpleasant. It reminds me of tea tree oil even though I don’t see it in the ingredients list. My skin feels so smooth and soft (and very clean). I also noticed that my pores don’t clog up as much, so the cleanser must be doing a good job in protecting against pollution as promised.

My family tries really hard to be as healthy as possible, buying organic where we can, cooking from scratch, gardening and so on. The EWG certification on skincare is a big deal to me since it signals that the product is safe to use. I don’t have to spend time researching every ingredient because the much more qualified EWG folks have already done it for me.

Not nearly as important as the cleanser itself, but still worth noting - the packaging is adorable! I love the chubby looking bottle with the contrasting pump. It just makes me happy to hold it in my hands. It’s one of the little pockets of joy that make life great. The cleanser is available on* eBay and Amazon.
