AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum Review

Every once in a while, there comes a brand that seems to hit the mark for my skin with every product. I’m starting to believe AXIS-Y is one of those brands. I’ve tried their sunscreen, wash off masks, sheet masks, and other products - they have all been great. Read my blog reviews by clicking #AXISY (and check their Instagram for more info about products). The latest thing I’ve been trying is AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum.

This product combines niacinamide with squalane to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation while giving the skin a healthy glow. The serum can be bought on the official AXIS-Y website and on YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for savings).

AXIS-Y skincare follows the 6+1+1 model - six base ingredients, one core ingredient, and one effective technology. The core ingredient in the Glow Serum is 5% niacinamide, well known for its ability to help with pigmentation and the appearance of pores. The six base ingredients are squalane, sea buckthorn, papaya, allantoin, rice bran and calendula. When I was little, we used to make sea buckthorn oil, because it’s such a potent skin healing ingredient. And I still remember my mom steeping calendula flowers to make a soothing bath. It’s nice to see what I would consider traditional (and effective) ingredients in modern-day skincare. The brand’s technology marries rice bran with niacinamide in a specific ratio for best results.

How to use:

  • Apply a small amount to the entire face or just the problem areas

  • Pat in to help with absorption

I like using this serum after cleansing and toning, typically in the evening (because I have more time then). It would also be suitable for morning use. I apply it all over the face.

The pump makes it very easy to dispense the needed amount. The product is a clear, somewhat liquid gel. I do not notice a scent, however my sense of smell has been quite whacky in recent weeks due to an illness.

AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum is vegan and cruelty free.

My impressions

I find this product interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever had a serum in packaging like this, and I like using the pump more than the traditional dropper. I also appreciate that the formula is 5% niacinamide. Niacinamide is effective at 2-5% concentrations, yet several brands increase it all the way to 10%, which makes reactions and irritation more likely for some people. More isn’t always better.

Dealing with pigmentation is a long, tedious process. I’m using various things for that, including daily diligent SPF applications. I do feel like my overall complexion is brighter and pores look smaller since starting the AXIS-Y serum. It’s very easy to apply and isn’t sticky (a big important part for me). I’ve also been putting it on a large freckle / pigmentation spot on my arm, where I don’t use any other products besides spf, and I’m seeing it slowly lighten.

This is definitely a good serum to try if you are looking for niacinamide as the star ingredient but don’t want to risk some of the higher % formulations.
