Haruharu WONDER Black Rice Hyaluronic Cream Review

This post contains affiliate links. Product provided by YesStyle.

I’m slowly working through the impressive collection of Haruharu PR I received in the last few months and trying to see what all the hype is all about. You can read my other reviews of this brand by clicking #Haruharu tag.

Haruharu WONDER Black Rice Hyaluronic Cream is available on YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for savings), Stylevana (discount code INF10KBH), Stylekorean, Jolse, iHerb (discount code CWN6107) and Amazon. The cream promises to provide intense moisture and nourishment. It’s made with hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and 10,000ppm Black Rice Extract to help with elasticity and signs of aging.

How to use:

  • Apply at the end of your routine

  • Follow with SPF if using in the morning

I find that less is more with this product. It’s quite rich and pleasant to apply, but it takes a bit of time to fully sink into my combination skin. Gently massaging it in and using a little less than I thought I would need is key to a velvety, non-sticky end result.

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice cream smells strongly of lavender, but I do like the scent. If you prefer unscented products, skip this one. For me, it adds to the spa-like experience of my evening skincare. The evening routine for me is all about relaxation and focusing on myself, sometimes for the first time that day, so I appreciate all aspects of the experience.

My impressions

I have to separate the cream review from the packaging review. Let’s start with the cream itself - I really like it. The silky, rich texture is lovely, especially now that it’s Fall. I typically use this at night to lock in all the hydrating layers, and I wake up with soft, nourished skin. The lavender scent makes me feel like I’m in a fancy spa and not in a small starter home bathroom, surrounded by toddler toys. Someone with very sensitive skin may need a fragrance free formula, but my combination resilient skin does wonderfully with this.

Now the packaging. I love and hate it. The shape is definitely unique and eye-catching, and I agree with the brand’s description of it being “Instagram-worthy”. It definitely got my attention among the sea of other skincare brands.

But there are some drawbacks - the egg-shaped tube can’t be stood upright and is prone to rolling when on its side. Laying it flat takes up too much sink real estate for me. But even more importantly - it’s super hard to get the cream out once the tube is no longer brand new. I’m having to squeeze harder and harder to get the product to dispense, and often the bottle slides out of my hands since they are slightly damp from my other skincare. I’m afraid to think how much will be stuck inside at the end (and I don’t think this will be easy to cut apart to get to the leftovers inside). To be fair, I really like the little nozzle dispenser part. The cream also comes in a larger container that’s reminiscent of a takeout coffee cup, and maybe that works better.

Have you tried this cream? What did you think?
