Keep Cool Double Sensational Lip Review

I’ve always been interested in the now iconic Korean beauty gradient lip. But knowing myself and my highly questionable makeup skills, I didn’t dare attempt it. It should come as no surprise that kbeauty brands figured out a way to make the gradient lip easier for people like me - two-tone lip products!

I recently got two of them in a PR by Sophie box. Keep Cool Double Sensational Lip tubes came in a cute gift set. They are available (individually and in festive packs of two) on YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for extra savings) and Jolse. The colors I have are Ash Rose and Moonlight Red. There’s also a third color option - Juicy Coral.

Keep Cool Double Sensational Lip is formulated to be 40% tint and 60% balm. Fun fact - after I swatched them on my hand in this unboxing video, I bathed and went to bed. Imagine my surprise when I saw faint lines of color on my hands the next day (after several hand washes). This stuff lasts!

Olive oil and shea butter nourish the lips and jojoba seed oil keeps in the moisture. Grapeseed oil helps with the dead skin and keeps the lips looking healthy and smooth.

How to use:

  • For a full color, apply to the lips from the center out

  • For a gradient look, dot 3 dots on the top and bottom lips, spread out with finger or cotton swab

OR

  • Apply the darker color to the inner side of the lower lip 2-3 times

  • Turn over and apply the darker color to the inner side of the top lip

  • Press your lips together for a natural gradient effect

I use the second method. The lower lip is easier, so I recommend you start there. Sometimes I add more of the darker color to the middle when I’m done, if needed. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but I didn’t find it too hard. Honestly, no matter how I end up applying it, my lips look pretty good.

Here’s my first attempt using Ash Rose:

And this is a later attempt with Moonlight Red. I’m not an expert, but i’m getting better!

My impressions

It’s really nice to have a truly gentle, nourishing lip product that still offers a lasting color. Usually you can have one or the other - either good color longevity or nice nourishment, but not both.

I haven’t been wearing much makeup, especially lip makeup, since masks became a daily part of life in 2020. Keep Cool Double Sensational Lip is a perfect product for me - more interesting than a simple balm or one-color lipstick, longer lasting than gloss, and it doesn’t make a mess of my masks even if a bit does rub off on them. I like how natural my lips look - like me but better. Of course, a more dramatic effect is possible if you apply several coats. The possibilities are endless.

Packaging deserves a special note. There are more lipstick brands than I can count, and most of them look quite similar. But something about these tubes makes me pause and smile. I love the see-through design and the glittery brand name. Add the adorable ornament-style box that the two-pack comes in, and you have a perfect gift or stocking stuffer (yes, I’m already totally in the holiday mood - 2020 needs to be over).

I appreciate both of the colors, but Ash Rose is my favorite universal look. I’ve been putting it on even at home, because it brightens my mood. Nobody outside of my family sees me without a mask these days, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still do special little things just for me.

Have you tried a gradient lip look? What are your tips and tricks?
