SOME BY MI Yuja Niacin Brightening Peeling Gel Review

I still remember my very first time using a peeling gel - the whole process and the effect afterwards blew my mind. I’ve had a peeling gel or two in my rotation ever since - for close to 7 years. My current choice is SOME BY MI Yuja Niacin Brightening Peeling Gel, available on Amazon, Blooming KOCO, and iHerb (code CWN6107).

The gel promises to soften dead skin cells with PHA and then remove them with cellulose. It smells like bitter citrus in the best way.

How to use

  • Wash and dry the face

  • Gently massage the peeling gel over the face - it will pill in the process

  • Rinse and follow with the rest of your routine

If you are new to peeling gels, keep in mind that little pellets that form during use are mainly cellulose. It’s not chunks of dead skin sloughing off.

My impressions

Despite my very hit and miss experience with Some By Mi as a brand, I like this peeling gel quite a bit. The scent is refreshing and not overly artificial, and the whole process leaves my skin soft and smooth without a stripped or irritated feeling.

Because I’m a regular tretinoin user, I don’t need a lot of exfoliation. However, I still enjoy a peeling gel once a week or so, especially if I see some flaking skin around the nose and cheeks (as long as it’s just painless flaking and not a damaged / sore skin barrier). I also sometimes use peeling gels on my body to exfoliate arms and legs.

The Yuja Niacin peeling gel does a good job removing any dry flakes without irritating or drying out the skin. The refreshing citrus scent adds to the overall cleansing experience as well. I would caution anyone with very sensitive or irritated skin to patch test before using this gel. My combination skin does just fine with it. I’m almost done with my tube. I got it before the brand redid the packaging design for this line. Now I’m having a hard time finding the peeling gel online (even though the rest of the yuja line is available in new packaging). Maybe it’s been discontinued? Either way, it’s a nice product and I will definitely finish my pack.
