The Orchid Skin Water Powder Cushion Review

I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and am always on the hunt for products that can make that oiliness behave. It’s a delicate balance - I want matte skin that still looks healthy and isn’t dry.

Recently I got the coolest product, something unlike anything else I’ve tried before - The Orchid Skin Water Powder Cushion. It’s available on* YesStyle (get extra savings with reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana, and Amazon. I won mine in a review giveaway.

The Orchid cushion is a colorless, clear primer that will not cake or settle into pores.

How to use:

  • Dab the included puff into the cushion once or twice

  • Gently pat into the oily areas

This product can be used before or even after makeup, as a blotting paper alternative. The compact is HUGE (the diameter is easily double that of usual cushions). The brand says it can be applied to the body and even the hair - as an alternative to dry shampoo. I use mine only on the face.

My impressions

Where has this been my whole life? In my very oily years, I used to wear makeup primers without foundation just to control the shine. This is so much nicer. It’s watery and clear, but gently mattifies the skin within 5-10 seconds. Yet it doesn’t dry out my face, doesn’t cake, crease, or settle into pores. Perfect.

I apply this at the primer stage (so after sunscreen has set in). It works well under bb creams and cushion foundations, but also performs nicely without any makeup at all. I both love and don’t love the size of the packaging. The large mirror makes this a wonderful tool for doing my makeup. It’s also really easy to hold, and in general I like the look and feel. But then The Orchid Skin Water Powder Cushion isn’t very portable. I suppose that’s fine - I don’t find myself needing to carry it with me, but I thought this was worth mentioning. You can still fit it into a purse or a makeup bag, it’s just not as small as post powders.

Overall, I’m completely in love and am torn between wanting to use this all the time and not wanting for it to ever run out.
