Toun28 Soaps Review - S5, S22, S23 for face and body

One of the many things I love about by Sophie beauty boxes is the exposure to lesser known Korean beauty brands. Toun28 was one of those brands. The company focuses on saving animals by eliminating plastic waste. Their website talks about all the animals that die by swallowing plastic debris or becoming tangled in them every year. Toun28 uses biodegradable paper containers for their products and is working on eliminating the plastic caps. Their products are sold on eBay, YesStyle, Amazon.

With the focus on animal welfare, I am surprised their products are not vegan. That seems to be a no-brainer way to save even more animal lives.

I have received three out of their 28 soaps (what the company refers to as “wash offs”; leave-on skincare is named “put ons”). You can find the ingredients lists at the end of the review.

S5 Guaiazulene + Jojoba oil facial soap

Best for: dry / combination / sensitive and acne-prone skin.

This soap is made with soothing guaiazulene (which is likely what gives it the blue color) and nourishing jojoba oil. It promises to gently remove makeup residue while hydrating the skin.

It’s been ages since I’ve used bar soap on my face. But recently that became popular again, especially after Liv Tyler showed off her luxury kbeauty facial soap in her famous skincare routine video. I like this soap. It’s a lot softer than the other bars I was sent (I even broke off a small piece opening it carelessly). The soap produces gentle abundant bubbles that cleanse the skin well. It’s definitely a bit more “intense” of a cleanser than liquid foaming washes, but it’s not drying my skin out. This may be a good option for people who want to reduce plastic packaging and are seeking a product that would last for a long time. Bar soaps typically last a considerably longer time than their liquid counterparts. For the face, I still prefer creamy or liquid products.

S22 Wasabi + Menthol body soap

Best for: those wanting to feel fresh, people who exercise heavily or those with “high body heat”.

This cooling body soap is deodorizing. It’s made with wasabi, which has a deodorizing effect, and menthol. The menthol in the ingredients produces a fun tingling and cooling sensation. Please note that this bar of soap comes packaged in a plastic wrap inside of the paper box. I’m not sure why, other than maybe it doesn’t hold up through shipping the way the other bars do (those didn’t have any plastic packaging).

When I saw wasabi and menthol on the packaging, I got a little scared. I mean… imagine having that on the more sensitive areas of the body. Hehe. But this actually ended up being my favorite soap out of the three. I lift heavy weights regularly (and work out 5 times a week), so the cooling sensation feels so good on my sore muscles. Definitely avoid more sensitive areas (you know what I mean), but arms/legs/armpits are totally ok.

I don’t notice the wasabi part at all. I’m sure it’s there, and I don’t know what I was expecting from a wasabi body product, but the scent is minty and the cooling sensation likely comes from menthol.

Last but not least, this soap is GORGEOUS to look at.

S23 Grapefruit Oil body soap

Best for: people with body acne.

This orange soap is made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, which is high in vitamin C and can help brighten skin. German chamomile may soothe body breakouts.

I like this soap, but the scent isn’t what I expected. I thought it would have a bright, citrus smell that would go along with the amazing orange color. And there are definitely some citrus notes, but I can also sense the tea tree oil and maybe even chamomile. There’s an herbal component to the scent, and I can’t say I love it. It’s not a deal breaker, but not the exciting scent I was hoping for.

As far as cleansing the body, it’s a fantastic soap. I do not have any breakouts, so I can’t speak to that, but it’s gentle and pleasant to use.
