Zion Health Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub Green Apple with Sea Salt Review

I’ve always struggled with my hair - it’s fine, straight, and blonde (I dream of thick, curly, red hair). It’s basically the opposite of what I would choose if I could. Alas, we do the best we can with what we are given. I have an oily scalp and dry/normal strands. My hair is currently shoulder length and colored with henna, but in the past I’ve grown it long enough to donate.

If you have fine hair, you know the struggle of making it look fuller - all the mousse and blow drying it takes. Because of that, I try not to shampoo daily (there’s nothing wrong with daily washing, but the subsequent styling drives me nuts). My hair actually looks better on days 2 and 3 because dry shampoo adds even more volume. But dry shampoo and other styling products can result in buildup that’s detrimental to healthy hair growth. I also work out at least 5 days a week, and sweat happens, so proper cleansing is very important.

I love using scalp exfoliating products about once a week to help remove all of the buildup and start fresh, giving the hair and scalp the best chance of being healthy. My recent obsession is Zion Health Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub. It comes in three scents - green apple, vanilla coconut, and pear blossom. I chose green apple. All scrubs are available on Zion Health website, and you can save 10% with my code LUCY10 on any of the scents. Check out this reel for a great texture shot.

This deep cleansing scrub promises to dissolve and remove buildup, restore luster, and balance pH levels. It is vegan and sulfate free.

How to use:

  • Apply to clean, damp scalp and hair

  • Gently massage

  • Rinse

I tend to focus on the scalp more than the rest of the hair since that’s where most of the buildup is for me.

In addition to sea salt, biotin, and plant oils, Zion Health Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub features ionic clay minerals which absorb excess sebum without stripping the hair or scalp. If you are a skincare nerd like I am, you have probably tried a clay mask or two for your face. Scalp is skin too, and can benefit in a similar way.

The product is white and has the texture of hair conditioner with noticeable salt particles. The scent deserves a separate mention - it’s bright and refreshing and reminds me of sour apple candies from my childhood. The aroma is definitely noticeable but doesn’t linger on the hair once rinsed off.

My impressions

I’m always somewhat hesitant to use products with oils on my scalp. After all, it’s already oily enough. But this scrub is beautifully formulated to do exactly what it promised - gently exfoliate without weighing down the hair, stripping the skin, or causing any other undesirable consequences.

I have tried this two different ways - before shampooing and after (I know the official instructions say to use this after shampoo). Both ways worked really well, and going forward I plan on using it exactly as directed by the brand. I currently shampoo my hair 2-3 times a week, and exfoliate the scalp once a week. This isn’t a routine set in stone - an extra sweaty workout session or dull looking hair can prompt an extra shampoo or exfoliation session.

Massaging Zion Health Deep Scrub into the scalp is a sensorial experience that’s absolutely lovely - it makes me instantly relax and forget about life’s problems, if only for a moment. The scent adds something special as well. I wouldn’t mind trying the other two varieties of this product.

I noticed that my hair looks healthier - it has a luster without being greasy. I also see more volume at the roots, probably because the buildup is removed more effectively than with shampoo alone. With regular use I’m hoping this can even help with hair growth, because having scalp congestion from dry shampoo and other styling products can hinder the hair’s ability to look and feel its best.

When I feel tired or overly stressed, ordinary rest isn't enough for me and I realize that I need extra support. At such times, I always start taking cbd supplements. I prefer the CBD gummies as they are have taste and smell. This is a great tool to help the body during stressful periods.
