Snail secretion filtrate - the name might not sound sexy, but the benefits sure are. It's one of the most talked about ingredients in Korean skincare. This mucin is high in allantoin and glycolic acid, which heal any UV damage and stop breakouts in their tracks. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production, preventing the formation of new wrinkles and improving the appearance of the existing ones. According to legends, even ancient Greeks used snails to treat burns and wounds. In more modern times, snail harvesters for the French chefs in Chili noticed their hands becoming soft and smooth which spurred interest in the mucin. The snails aren’t killed to get this ingredient.
Hyaluronic acid - a strong hydrating agent that attracts moisture to the skin for a plump, youthful look.
Centella asiatica extract - derived from an herb well known for its healing properties, it reduces irritation, inflammation and redness and helps heal breakouts.
The snail secretion filtrate concentration in this improved version is now 93% (91% in the original version). The packaging also got a makeover to look more chic and polished. I love Purito brand for the natural and safe ingredients (all are safe on the Environmental Working Group’s database). This serum is 10-free, which means it’s made without parabens, mineral oils, paraffin, colorants, ethanol, triethanolamine, benzophenone, phthalates, formaldehyde, and BHT.
How to use:
Cleanse and tone the face, use fermented essence (optional)
Apply the serum
Continue with the rest of the routine - lotion, cream, etc.
The serum can also be mixed with your cream to create a potent sleeping mask.
My impressions:
I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-to-normal cheeks, occasional breakouts. For me, all of the manufacturer’s promises came true (except I can’t speak about the dark circles as I do not have those in the first place). I do not use this serum daily, but at least a few times a week. It applies very pleasantly, gets absorbed quickly and is not sticky. Once a month, like many ladies, I get annoying hormonal skin issues, and this serum helps heal them sometimes overnight. And if I remember to start using it before any pimples come up, then I avoid the outbreak altogether. I use it both morning and night and it doesn’t interfere with makeup or anything else. My husband woke up with a completely random bouquet of small red bumps on his face (he has oily skin) before our brunch date once, so I slathered some on him and in an hour the redness had basically disappeared. The product has no scent that I can detect, which makes it ideal for people with sensitivities or those who want to share it with a partner without having “gender-specific” scents (although I personally think if you like something - go for it, who cares what the society thinks). It’s definitely something I keep in my arsenal at all times, just in case. I highly recommend it for anyone in need of acne care, anti-aging and soothing treatments.
