Purito Centella Green Level Eye Cream Review

Updated: Oct 24, 2020

About me: 28 y.o., combination skin with freckles, getting first signs of aging.

I’ve been looking for an eye cream that’s light enough for mornings and not greasy for some time now. I wanted hydration and no interference with makeup. I’ve already gone through two “bear” sticks from The Saem but wanted something new. I use Etude House collagen cream at night, but it’s too much for mornings.

I love Purito for its non toxic ingredients, and everything I’ve tried so far has worked well for me (except the vitamin C serum which makes my fair skin quite red and warm). When they came out with an eye cream, I got so excited! The idea was to use it as a night cream and keep looking for some sort of gel option for the day. But turns out it’s very light, gets absorbed well, doesn’t cause any stickiness, doesn’t roll off in greasy pieces, and doesn’t cause a heavy sensation. Overall, it’s exactly what I wanted, but in a “cream” form.

The product comes in a long tube with a nifty pointed nozzle - so you don’t have to reach into a jar with potentially contaminated hands. A small amount is enough for both eyes. I don’t notice a strong smell, just something light and herbal. It's available on eBay and Amazon.

The packaging states “EWG Green Level Ingredients”. What does that mean? EWG Skindeep Database is a gold mine of information on cosmetic ingredients. You can search by product name or a specific component and it will give you a toxicity rating from 1 to 10. The higher the number, the more harmful/toxic the ingredient is. Cosdna uses a similar rating. All safe ingredients are marked with a green label, and Purito proudly says that all of theirs are marked as safe in the EWG database. To me, that is very important. My family is careful about toxins in our lives, in food and otherwise, so if a product is safe AND effective, it’s a win with me.

The manufacturer recommends this cream for those with the first signs of aging, like me - no deep wrinkles yet, but I’m not 15 anymore either. The skin around the eyes is one of the first areas to age and needs special care. The cream contains 4 different peptides which strengthen and support this delicate zone. 49% centella extract calms even the most sensitive skin. I read in a magazine ad recently that an ancient legend tells of tigers rolling in centella grass post battle to aid with wound healing. In my experience, it has been a great ingredient in skincare. Purito also included panthenol and hyaluronic acid which bring up moisture levels in the skin.

A bit about peptides and why we need them. With age, the amount of protein in the skin decreases, and the first wrinkles are formed. Peptides are protein ingredients that strengthen the skin, prevent aging and improve elasticity. The peptide molecules are much smaller than protein ones and can penetrate deeper into the skin, restoring it from within.

The manufacturer also says the cream can be used for the whole face and the nasolabial folds. But Purito already makes a good centella face cream that would be more cost effective over a larger area. I do like the nasolabial idea, however, as that’s another zone that can succumb to the aging process quickly.

Overall, I’m very happy. At the end of the day, even if I wore what I consider “full makeup” (primer, eyeshadow, liner), I have no dryness. I’m anxiously awaiting what else Purito comes up with next.
