What makes packaging great? Functionality. Beauty. Whether it gives the user joy. Catkin Hydrating Lip Balm somehow nails all three. And yes, I purchased it for the packaging and I do not regret it.
Catkin Hydrating LIp Balm is a cross between traditional lipstick and colorless moisturizing treatments. It provides more color payoff than tinted balms, but never settles into lip lines the way traditional lipsticks sometimes do. I chose the color C06 Camellia. My mom loved the formula and the look, so later I ended up getting C05 Dusty Rose for her. Both are available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and Amazon.

Now about the magical packaging - the metal case features beautiful artwork and a magnetic lid. It comes in a beautiful box that I kept the whole time. It feels so much nicer and more luxurious than its modest price tag. I wish all cosmetics came in wonderful packaging like this!
How to use
Apply to lips
Catkin makes several versions of the balm - natural color-tinted (what I have), PH color-changing, and tinted with shimmer. All of them have fantastic looking packaging. Please note that Amazon product photos show C05 with a shimmer. That’s not accurate - C06 and all other colors from the “natural” tinted collections are not shimmery. YesStyle photos are more accurate, even though they are the same images. I think the pictures on Amazon are over-exposed.

My impressions
I love this! I really need to stop buying all the lip products, though, because I almost never finish a single one. Buying and using lippies are two separate hobbies. I already bought a glittery one but haven’t opened it yet…
I love the color, the formula, and the fact that there’s no unpleasant taste (that can ruin the best of lipsticks). It’s a fantastic looking product that also happens to work well - a combination that’s hard to find. Oh, and it’s under $20. Win win win. It’s not the longest lasting color by any means, but it fades / wears off evenly and I do not look strange if I decide not to reapply.
If you want to wow someone, gift them one of these.
