Sourcing Asian skincare in the USA for the last year has been wild, especially sunscreens. Tariffs, shipping restrictions, FDA cracking down on non-USA approved filters - oof! I was definitely somewhat worried about having to go back to smelly, greasy, white-cast formulas. But there might be hope for us yet!
Coco & Eve makes award winning beauty products, including sunscreen! The global headquarters are in Singapore with laboratories in the US, UK, and Italy. They generously sent me two of their body SPFs to try.
Coconut Milk Body SPF50 is a lightweight, water-based lotion. It’s sold at Coco&Eve, Boots, Target, and Ulta.

Highlighter Body SPF50 is a serum-like body highlighter infused with pearlescent minerals for a lovely glow. Available at Coco&Eve, Boots, Target, and Ulta.

Both are made in the USA and offer broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. The highlighter has an added benefit of being water resistant for up to 40 minutes.
Fragrance Notes (both products share a scent)
Top: Pear, Almond, Coconut milk, Grapefruit
Heart: Mango, Pineapple, Floral, Sandalwood
Base: Vanilla, Toffee, Amber wood, Tonka beans
How to use
Shake well (highlighter)
Apply to all exposed areas 20 minutes before being in the sun
Reapply as needed or at least every two hours
I love the pump applicators on these! Pumps make using the products so easy.
My impressions
I adore Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Protect Coconut Milk! It’s a light, non-greasy formula with 0 white cast and is a pleasure to apply. The scent is pleasant, noticeable, but not overwhelming. The brand describes it as mango, but to me it smells more floral than fruity. I have to get my nose very close to the skin to notice the scent after application, but it lasts for hours. I see this as a perk; someone who doesn’t like fragrance may feel differently.
Milk:
I usually spend the entire Summer covered head to toe in UPF clothing. I keep sun gloves and sun sleeves in the car. And while I love the ease and convenience of fabric coverings, sometimes they get too warm. We recently spent a few days in a cabin with tons of outdoor time - it was very nice to have an easy to use body SPF that didn’t leave greasy marks on my car or my family. Once applied, it dried down very quickly and wasn’t noticeable at all, except for the scent. I reapplied every few hours and didn’t burn or tan at all. It’s important to note that we didn’t do any water activities, so I am not sure how the Protect Coconut Milk would have held up at a pool or a lake. My guess is not very well, since it’s not labeled as water resistant.
Highlighter:
The Highlighter Body SPF50 feels like an oil when applied, but sinks into the skin quickly and leaves no grease behind. While the bottle looks glittery, the shimmer on the skin is subtle and barely noticeable. It’s very wearable no matter the situation. I could easily apply this before going to the office and not look strange. My 12 year old is in love with this product and is actively trying to pilfer it from my bathroom. I love that it’s water resistant and STILL not gross or greasy. Usually water resistant formulas are less cosmetically elegant than their “regular” counterparts. I had no issues removing it with regular shower gel - no special products needed.
Both sunscreens are lovely and are doing their part restoring my faith in Western cosmetics. If someone told me these were Japanese or Korean formulas, I would have believed them (ok ok, the company being based in Singapore probably has something to do with this; still, they had to use only US-approved filters to sell here). For daily non-water use, I slightly prefer the texture and consistency of the milk. However, the highlighter feels amazing on my dry legs - it contains vitamin E that can help with dry skin.

The only negative in this entire ordeal is the price. Coco & Eve has wonderful formulas but at a premium price. With how much sunscreen we would need for proper protection of all exposed skin, the expense can add up. So I am still using UPF pants, sun hats, and gloves when appropriate, and applying SPF everywhere else, mostly arms. If it’s a hot non-sleeve day, the Milk comes in very handy! If money is no object, these are wonderful products to add to your skincare arsenal. And it’s still much, much cheaper than having to deal with skin cancer.
