I’ve always had fine, thin hair, but age, motherhood, and hereditary predisposition didn’t do me any favors. Eventually, the hair loss got so bad that my scalp was shining brighter than my spirit. I finally took the issue seriously and started treating it with a variety of products. Some worked, others didn’t - it’s been a long road of trial and error. Now, three years in, I have a solid routine that’s working. I even got a compliment on my hair from a friend the other day.
Good hair isn’t a quick fix - it’s a routine
If you’re trying to grow thicker hair and feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice, products, and tools, this is the exact system I follow. I have learned that results come from consistent routines, not chasing after every new viral hack.
This guide focuses on how to use the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet in a realistic daily routine, including exactly where minoxidil fits on wash days and non-wash days. If you want to read more about why I chose to add the helmet in the first place and what it did for my hair, check out this article.

Why January Is the Best Time to Start a Hair Growth Routine
‘Tis the season for resolutions, yet most fizzle out by February. How about ditching strict, unsustainable resolutions and focusing on sustainable routines that can last for years to come? Now is a great time for building a hair growth regimen:
Improving hair requires time and consistency
It takes approximately 75 days to build a habit and reduce shedding
12 weeks is the clinical window for visible hair growth results
Winter means less heat styling and more predictable schedules - the holidays parties are thankfully behind us
Starting now means visible improvement by spring
How Red Light Therapy Supports Hair Growth
The CurrentBody helmet uses red light wavelengths between 620-660nm, which are clinically shown to:
Support scalp health
Increase circulation
Reduce inflammation
Help reactivate dormant hair follicles
Keep hair in the growth phase longer
This creates the ideal environment for hair growth without the dreaded Minoxidil shed. Plus, the helmet is fully hands-free, wireless, and has built-in bluetooth speakers that work very well.
I use the helmet while filling the bathtub - 10 minutes is the perfect duration for my specific tub. Win win. I highly encourage everyone to find a consistent time / trigger during the day to use the helmet. Instead of focusing on a specific time (such as 10am), stack this with another habit. For example - use the helmet while you brush your teeth or pick out the day’s outfit, etc. Habit stacking can lead to consistency.
I have fine, thin, straight hair with an oily scalp and dry/normal lengths. I wash every other day. Please note that hair training is a myth, and washing the scalp any time it’s dirty is a must. DHT and products can build up on the scalp, further exacerbating hair loss issues. Please wash your scalp as often as needed, based on your unique body chemistry.
My Worst Hair to Now

Wash Day Hair Growth Routine
On wash days, this is the exact order I follow:
LED Hair Growth Helmet
Wash hair
Use any shampoo I want that day - clarifying, color safe, Tsal, etc.
Thoroughly massage the head, focusing on getting the scalp really clean
Follow with conditioner from ear level to ends (after rinsing shampoo)
Rinse thoroughly
Apply minoxidil to towel-dried scalp
Dry hair as usual - I use a blow dryer on a medium setting
I do not layer oils or extra scalp treatments. Simplicity is what makes this routine sustainable for me. Sometimes, I use a hair serum on the lengths from the ear level down. This can be tailored to your specific hair needs.
Non-Wash Day Hair Growth Routine
On non-wash days, the routine is even simpler:
LED Hair Growth Helmet
Apply minoxidil (bonus points for doing a little scalp massage with a brush or fingertips)
This consistency is what delivers results.
Using Minoxidil With LED Therapy
Minoxidil increases blood flow and helps extend the hair growth phase. LED therapy supports follicle health and scalp circulation. Used together, they complement each other extremely well.
I don’t use LED therapy as a replacement for minoxidil. I use it as a supporting treatment that improves overall results. By the time I introduced the CurrentBody helmet, my minoxidil results were well established and consistent (with no further improvement). I saw very clear further improvement after introducing the helmet, especially in the front (my most troubled area).

Other hair-related activities that I find helpful (please discuss any supplementation with your doctor):
Pumpkin seed oil capsules - an oral over-the-counter DHT blocker
A multi-vitamin rich in iron and a separate vitamin D supplement (based on my bloodwork and doctor recommendations - your needs may vary)
A bond repair treatment such as Olaplex a couple of times a month on wash days before shampooing
Protective hairstyles such as loose braids with soft, gentle elastics to prevent breakage and unnecessary pulling on hair roots - no tight ponies or high tension buns
Nizoral and / or Tsal shampoo a few times a month. Nizoral can further help with DHT and reduce harmful yeast on the scalp. Tsal helps oily scalps stay clean longer. Again, your needs here may differ from mine.
What I avoid
Constant product switching
Trend-based oils and serums
Overly complex routines that are too expensive or complicated
Products with big claims but no research to back them up
Supplementation not based on lab work (such as biotin)
Hair growth improves with consistency, not complexity. The most important part is finding what works for you and then sticking with it long term.
Why the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Works for Real Life
What makes this device easy to stick to is how simple it is:
10 minutes per session
Recommended use: 3 times per week or more. I use it daily
Hands-free with Bluetooth
Two size options. I use the large size. Website provides measurements to help you choose
FDA cleared
HSA/FSA eligible
60-day money-back guarantee
2-year warranty
It’s a one-time investment that replaces ongoing trial-and-error purchases.
How Long It Takes to See Results
Around 75 days: reduced shedding and improved scalp health
12 weeks: visible, clinical results
Continued use: maintenance and density support
Hair loss doesn’t reverse overnight, but consistent routines compound over time. Be very skeptical of anything promising immediate results. The only things that can instantly “improve” hair loss are scalp makeup and wigs.
I’ve used the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet consistently for over two years. When I briefly stopped during a move (for a few months), my hair density worsened. When I resumed, it improved again.
That confirmed what matters most - consistency.

Final Thoughts
This routine works because it’s realistic. It’s not an overnight miracle and it cannot give me Disney princess hair. But it stopped my hairloss and I can no longer see a perfect outline of my skull in the mirror.
Good hair isn’t a quick fix. It’s a routine you repeat.
