I live dangerously and tend to purchase skincare without spending much time on samples first. Plus, traditional sample sachets are typically too small to be truly useful in deciding if the product is for me. But trial kits are a whole different story.
The iUnik Daily Serum Trial Kit includes three of the brand’s best sellers - Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum, Rose Galactomyces Synergy Serum, and Tea Tree Relief Serum. The propolis serum contains 70% propolis extract to soothe the skin. The rose serum promises to help with hydration, brightening, and normalizing the water oil balance. All of these have a similar texture and appearance, other than color. They are thicker than water but still easily dispensed using the pipette. There’s no stickiness or heaviness. I do not detect any scent, even though I wish the rose one would smell like roses. People sensitive to fragrances would likely appreciate this.
My impressions
I have combination skin that’s not very sensitive. Some areas are dry and some are oily. I have occasional breakouts, but not too often.
To do a proper review of each item, I would need to go through most of a full sized bottle. However, the trial kit itself is a wonderful idea for someone who isn’t sure which of the iconic iUnik serums they’d like (and doesn’t want to spend money on 3 full sized options). Each bottle is large enough for multiple uses and is great for travel.
I reach for the propolis serum when my skin is feeling irritated (such as after long walks in windy weather or when I overdo it with retinoids). I choose tea tree relief serum if I’m breaking out and the rose serum pretty much any time I want a boost of hydration without a heavy, sticky feeling.
Out of the three, the propolis one is definitely my favorite. It’s gotten cold where I live, and my face and hands are dry and irritated. The indoor heating isn’t helping the dryness either. I use the propolis serum the most but enjoy the rose one as well. The tea tree option would have been more useful in the summer when my skin tends to get slightly oilier. I still utilize it if I feel a blemish though.
Overall, it’s a great kit and would make for a nice gift for someone if you aren’t sure of their exact skin type and concerns.
