Double cleansing at night is my favorite, but I still occasionally try single step cleansers. The JUICE TO CLEANSE Water Wash Balm, available on Jolse, caught my eye several months ago and I finally decided to try it. Please note that it comes in 100g and 200g containers; mine is 100g. It promises to remove makeup, SPF, environmental debris, dirt and excess oil - all in one step.
How to use
Apply a small amount to dry skin
Massage gently
Add water and massage more - the cleanser will foam slightly
Rinse and follow with the rest of your routine
At first, the water wash balm feels similar to a cleansing balm but firmer. It doesn’t melt into an oil, instead it sort of spreads on the skin like a cream. I kept thinking how the texture of the wash balm felt so familiar, and it finally dawned on me - it’s almost exactly like Noxzema! But only in texture. There is no menthol burn or irritation like there is with Noxzema. Are any of my readers even old enough to remember that product? My mom used it 20 years ago…
I like the noticeable fruity / citrusy scent. The packaging has a picture of a papaya on it, but I don’t think the product smells like papaya. Still, it’s a nice aroma and it doesn’t linger. The marketing materials advertise “no artificial fragrances”, but don’t be fooled - this is not a fragrance free product. It contains essential oils, plus limonene and linalool which can be considered fragrance. And if your reason for avoiding fragrance is sensitive skin, then essential oils may be an issue as well.
This cleanser does a good job removing sunscreen and makeup. A word of caution - my eyes don’t always love this product, so if you are a heavy makeup wearer, consider using a separate eye makeup remover first or maybe finding a different cleanser altogether. I got some of the juice to cleanse in my eyes yesterday and it wasn’t great. Most of the time, this is my weekend evening cleanser when I only have sunscreen on and no eye makeup.
My impressions
This is definitely interesting and different from other cleansers I’ve tried. It leaves my skin clean and very soft, no dryness or irritation (unless I get it into my eyes). The eyes thing is the only reason this isn’t a total holy grail - I wish I could use it all over my face, including to remove eye shadow on the rare occasions that I wear it. Still, it’s a great weekend product and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I will definitely use up the tub. It’s lasting me longer than similarly sized cleansing balms, because it takes less volume of the water wash balm to cover the face and neck. I bet it would be great at removing waterproof body SPF as well...
I’m going to take a closer look at the rest of the brand’s offerings, because it looks like they are great at making unique products.
