Mary & May Idebenone + Blackberry Complex Serum Review

I’m having a great time trying out various Mary & May products. It’s a new to me brand and so far I’m pretty impressed. Mary & May Idebenone + Blackberry Complex Serum, available on Oshen Skin (use KBHOBBIT10 for a discount) promises to improve elasticity and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

I first heard about idebenone in skincare a couple of years ago, but never had it as a star ingredient in a product until 2021 (read the Mary & May idebenone cream review here). Idebenone is a more powerful substitute for Coenzyme Q10 and has antioxidant properties to help improve the appearance of wrinkles / protect the skin from environmental damage. The serum also features blackberry and blueberry extracts. A full ingredient list is available at the end of the article.

How to use:

  • Apply after cleansing and toning

  • Gently pat in

  • Follow with the rest of your routine (I like to seal in with Mary & May idebenone cream)

The serum has a gel consistency, no noticeable scent (it’s fragrance free, but that doesn’t always mean scent-free), and a beautiful yellow color. I haven’t noticed any stickiness or other unpleasant side effects.

My impressions

This Mary & May serum easily fits into my evening routine. I typically use it right after toner, but it could also follow a more watery serum if you are a fan of layering. With antioxidant products and treatments that focus on preventing the signs of aging, results take a long time and can be difficult to assess (versus something that’s calming and quickly reduces redness, for example). I am 32 and have a few fine lines here and there, especially on the forehead ( I call them my “WTF?” lines). Mary & May idebenone serum, especially when combined with the cream, plumps them up nicely. Hopefully, it is also keeping them at bay long term too.

My only complaint, and a slight one at that, is the packaging. Because the serum is so thick, I think it would have been better in a pump bottle. But that’s not a deal breaker.

Have you tried this serum? What did you think?
