I’m not ashamed to admit that sometimes I choose products just for the packaging. When I was little, I used to follow my uncle around asking him to tell me I’m pretty, and I still appreciate visually pleasing things (although it’s not as self-centered anymore). MISSHA Tonight Brilliance Oil In Cream immediately caught my eye, and I had to have it, along with the Essence from the same line (review here).
The Oil In Cream is available on Jolse and promises deep moisture for the skin through the use of Micro Emulsion System™. It contains pearl protein and pearl powder extract to brighten the skin and improve the look of wrinkles. Spoiler alert - I have never seen or used anything like this before.
How to use:
Apply to the skin after cleansing and using essence (add serums or other steps, as desired, making sure the oil in cream is the last step)
Gently pat in
Best used at night, as the name implies
This product is fascinating. Yes, I bought it because of the jar, but I didn’t expect to find such interesting contents. I’ve tried dozens of creams in my lifetime, but this one takes the cake. Inside the jar is… a liquid! Or a very thin gel, if you’d like… It’s hard to describe, but it’s definitely drippy. I can dip my finger into it, all the way to the bottom of the jar! I tried that because I thought that maybe some of the ingredients separated at the top. Nope! The entire product has a uniformly thin consistency and a captivating iridescent finish. If unicorns (or aliens) used skincare, this would be it.
The scent is identical (or super close) to the Essence from the same line - a bit fruity and not very strong. If you are overly concerned with germs / product contamination, you could try using a spatula. I opt for a clean finger - usually one dip is enough for my face and neck, because this product spreads really well, and my combination skin doesn’t need a lot of it.
My impressions
This is almost perfect - I love the iridescent shimmer, the subtle scent, and the whole application process of gliding this product over my skin. It’s the absolute burst of pleasure to finish off my busy days. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-ish everything else, and this cream makes everything soft, smooth, and plump in the best way.
The reason this is almost perfect is, surprisingly, the packaging. Yes, I adore the jar, and when it’s empty I am not sure I could bring myself to recycle it. But seeing how Missha Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream is so liquid, I think it would be better off packaged in a pump bottle. The lid has a second “under lid” (I don’t know what they are called, but you probably know what I mean), that’s a bit awkward to remove every time before use, yet I do not want to get rid of it completely - if the jar ever tips or gets dropped by one of my kids, the contents will slosh and spill everywhere. This is my only gripe, and a small one at that. It wouldn’t stop me from getting another jar (and another, and another…).
A quick Google search shows me that there used to be other products in this line, or at least one other product - a lip balm. I don’t see that for sale anymore, and even the cream and essence aren’t really available in many places. So if these sound interesting to you, snatch them up from Jolse while you still can.
