I spent the second half of 2023 stress buying perfume. I had so many things completely outside of my control that my brain decided to cope by learning everything about perfume. It will take me several years to work through the pile I acquired. I’m not mad about it, but I also had to stop and find another (cheaper) way to cope with life.

NEST New York Indigo Eau de Parfum

One of the best impulse buys was the NEST mini trial set from Sephora. I liked all of the little rollers, but ended up buying NEST Indigo in full size. It’s available at Sephora, NEST official website, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom.

Indigo was inspired by the founder’s trip to a tea shop on Bond Street in London. The Moroccan tea aroma impressed her so much that she designed a fragrance around it years later. I love tea, and this fragrance caught my eye even before I had a single whiff.

Key Notes:

  • Moroccan tea

  • Bergamot

  • Wild fig

  • Kashmir wood

NEST New York is a “clean” brand. The fragrance is made without formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, and gluten. It’s gluten free and vegan. The reason I put “clean” in quotation marks is because it’s an unregulated marketing term. But I still mention those claims in case they are important to the readers.

The gorgeous bottle was inspired by the works of Mary Delany, an 18th century British artist. Each fragrance was translated to a beautiful work of botanical art.

My impressions

If I had to pick one perfume to use for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I’m not a “signature scent” girl, but this would be it. It was love at first sniff, and the feeling hasn’t gone away. The fragrance is beautiful - it’s not overly feminine but not masculine either. I firmly believe that we shouldn’t gender products, but a lot of scents marketed to women do tend to lean more sweet and floral. And “for men” scents are often a blend of car air freshener and marine catch of the day… This one is cool, spicy (but without giving amber or cinnamon), and overall delightful. Italian lemon and bergamot take this to the next level. Could I describe the notes without reading the official brand materials? No. I just know that I love it.

The scent is incredibly long lasting without being overwhelming. I’m prone to headaches - all of my cleaning products, laundry soap, etc are unscented. It took me years to even try perfumes because they start to bother me a few minutes in. But not NEST. Indigo stays on the skin for 8+ hours, yet people around me cannot smell it unless they are very, very close (I call it “biting distance”). I wear fragrance for myself, not for anyone else, so sillage isn’t a selling point for me. I like more private scents. I have asked my friends to sniff my wrists a couple of times and they always like Indigo (or say they like it hehe).

NEST New York Indigo Eau de Parfum

I highly recommend NEST to anyone who’s getting into fragrance. Their perfumes and scented oils are incredible. Even their candles are fantastic. The pricing is on par or a little lower than designer fragrances. Definitely worth a try.
