Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask Review

This is a sponsored review with affiliate links. Product provided by Papa Recipe.

I love wash off masks and usually have at least one or two kinds on hand. A few months ago I started using Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask. It has gotten a packaging upgrade since then, but the formula inside is the same. The mask is available on the brand’s official Amazon page. And from March 25 - April 8th, save up to 40% on this mask by following this link (code 20EGGPLANT) which will apply 20% off. Combined with the existing clickable coupon within the listing, you will get a total of 30% off on a single pack or 40% off on the two pack.

Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask new vs old packaging

Made with 66% eggplant extract, this mask promises to remove excess sebum and improve the overall appearance of the skin without causing any dryness or irritation. Papa Recipe strives to make products suitable for all skin types, including sensitive.

How to use

  • Apply an even layer after cleansing

  • Relax for 15-20 minutes

  • Rinse and follow with the rest of your routine

The mask is very creamy and gentle. It does contain walnut shell powder, which might make those of us who grew up with St Ives scrub shudder a little. But let me reassure you - the powder is fine and very sparse; this isn’t a scrub. I barely notice it, and if anything it feels pretty nice as I rinse off the mask. Because the mask is so creamy and doesn’t dry out even after 15 minutes, it’s quick to rinse off without unneeded friction, so again - it’s not at all like using a harsh physical scrub. If anything, it provides very mild physical exfoliation but could probably be omitted from this mask. I do not notice a scent at all.

My impressions

I tried clay masks for the first time when I was in middle school and quickly swore off of them. Back then, the formulas were harsh and dried to a flaking crust, creating a tight, uncomfortable feeling on the skin. Washing them off was a chore that always left my skin red, irritated, and dehydrated. I’m so happy that we have much better options now that do not require scrubbing the skin raw!

Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask is a gentle but effective treatment for my combination skin. I love the creamy consistency (even with the occasional walnut particle) and the beautiful deep color. I have combination skin that can get congested around the nose / chin, and a good clay mask can visibly improve the situation almost immediately.

Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask on the face

I can comfortably apply Papa Recipe Eggplant Mud Cream Mask all over the face, including the dry areas like cheeks, without any irritation. My favorite way to use masks is to relax in a warm bath while listening to a podcast or watching YouTube. For an extra pampering session, I follow this with a Papa Recipe Honey sheet mask (review here).

Right after use, I notice how much softer and more supple my skin feels. The oily areas are tamed while the dry ones are happy as well. The appearance of pores / sebaceous filaments is greatly improved.

I’m still not out of my first tube of this mask (the old packaging style), but super excited for a restock with the new design. As a content creator, I often end up with more skincare than I can realistically use, so doubles end up with friends and family. However, I’m not giving away this mask - I like it so much that I will use both packages myself.
