This blog happened by accident. Back in 2016, mom groups were softly buzzing with rumors of snail skincare from Korea. I was intrigued and overwhelmed, constantly meaning to look into it further and then promptly forgetting. I was freshly married, had a demanding toddler, and felt like life was generally quite difficult.
Because I cannot do anything half way, once I joined a big kbeauty group, I started writing my own reviews and posting them on Facebook. Then, I got hired to translate the group's blog from Russian to English, which basically forced me to read hundreds of reviews.
Eventually, I wanted to work with brands, which was very difficult to do without your own platform. I was scared to leave the established group, but I when I'm scared, I do things scared. I don't stop. Kbeautyhobbit and Korean Beauty Fanatics were born.
This blog is my middle child. It got me through a lot of changes in the last decade - pregnancy and childbirth, career shifts, difficult medical diagnoses, and a house move. Sometimes, it was the center of attention, giving my brain something to focus on instead of crying in the corner about things I couldn't change. Other times, it faded into background and quietly waited for its next time to shine.
My first reviews mentioned my "two forehead lines" and "no gray hair". Ooof. I definiely have a lot more lines and quite a few grays these days. Aging is such a stressful privilege. And that clingy toddler from the start of the blog? She has a cell phone and is always asking if I have any makeup I "don't want". And she has a brother who's finishing Kindergarten this week. What a trip it's been!
