I take sun protection seriously and enjoy discovering new formulas. Back in the day, using SPF was a struggle, a necessary evil typically complete with a sticky, greasy finish and a terrible smell. But the world of Korean beauty brought us wonderful products that are a pleasure to apply. I’m currently using SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-fit Suncream Plus SPF50+ PA++++. It is a non-nano physical sunscreen that promises to protect the skin from UV rays and brighten without a white cast or a heavy feeling. In addition to UV filters, this formula contains centella asiatica to soothe the skin and niacinamide to help with the appearance of pores, pigmentation, redness, and sebum production.
How to use
Apply at the end of your skincare routine (before makeup, if using)
Spread evenly over exposed areas (don’t forget the ears, neck, and around the eyes)
This SPF has a nice, creamy texture with a light beige tint. This color comes from the natural centella asiatica within the sunscreen - no artificial colors or tints have been added. I only notice the color when squeezing the product into my hand and not once it’s on my skin. I do not detect a scent. If there is any, it’s very mild and doesn’t linger.
My impressions
I’m hard to impress when it comes to sunscreens, but SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-fit Suncream did it! I have fair, combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-to-normal cheeks, so I need a formula that will keep my oily nose and forehead looking great without overdrying the cheeks. I also don’t want to look like I dipped my face into a bucket of white paint, or feel any stickiness or grease on my face.
For me, SKIN1004 sunscreen hits all of those checkmarks. First of all, it’s incredibly easy to apply - it spreads well (I had issues with some other mineral formulas in the past) and dries down within a few minutes. At first, it is a tad dewy, but after a while starts to look very natural / semi-matte without feeling tight or uncomfortable. The picture indoors is right after application; the one in sunglasses is after 20-30 minutes (but it doesn’t take that long to dry down). I’m not wearing anything else on top - no powder, no makeup - absolutely nothing. The finish you see is just the sunscreen.
Second, this sunblock feels amazing to the touch. While I try not to touch my face too much during the day, it still happens, and I’m pleased to report that it feels like my skin (if not better), without a hint of oil or stickiness. At the same time, it doesn’t dry me out. Win win. Oh, and no irritation around the eyes, even when I workout and sweat.
This next part is subjective (well, the whole review is, really), but SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-fit Suncream leaves no white cast on me. If you look closely, you can even see some of my blemishes / redness in all of their glory. I make it a point not to edit things like that in pictures, because normal, real skin isn’t a photoshopped magazine cover. I’m not sure how it would act on deeper skin tones, but for my purposes it’s a great SPF.
I do not wear a lot of makeup, but I tested SKIN1004 sunscreen with a primer and a bb cream I have and experienced no pilling.
My only wish would be for a bigger (much bigger) bottle. This is a good, convenient size for taking with me, but I like it so much that I’m already worried about what to do when I run out. I hope the brand considers making a larger version if at all possible.
