Slosophy Serum Cleanser Review

Product was provided by Sophie Beauty Box.

Even after years of trying different kbeauty products, the innovation still blows my mind. I use cleansing oils, serums, foaming cleansers, and then I got my hands on… a SERUM CLEANSER. What even is that?

When I saw Slosophy Serum Cleanser in one of the By Sophie boxes (unboxing reel here), I thought it was just another creatively named first-step cleanser. But no, it’s a totally unique product unlike anything else I’ve tried before. It’s available on the brand’s official website.

Slosophy Serum Cleanser is an all-in-one cleanser made with moringa seeds, camellia extract, citric acid, and juniper berry extract. It is gentle and vegan friendly.

How to use:

  • Apply a generous amount (the brand recommends 2-3 tsp) to dry face

  • Gently massage for 30 seconds

  • Wash off with lukewarm water

  • Follow with the rest of your routine

I don’t think I use the whole 2-3 teaspoons of the serum cleanser at a time, but I can’t say I’ve ever measured it. I probably use less. The cleanser is very easy to use - as the name implies, it has the texture of a thick serum, similar to some cleansing oils, but it doesn’t emulsify. I double checked with the brand - this is designed to be a single step item, so no need for a foaming wash afterwards.

There’s a bit of a scent that is quite hard to describe, but I like it. It’s very mild and doesn’t linger. The cleanser washes off completely with water, without any residue.

My impressions

This is awesome. I wasn’t too sure about it at first, because I’m used to either cleansing oils + foams or a 2-in-1 foaming cleanser. I have never had a cleanser that was single step but not foaming, as far as I can remember.

The texture is lovely. I really enjoy gently massaging it all over the face to remove sunscreen and makeup. I don’t wear much makeup daily, but this takes it off just fine. For the purposes of the review, I’ve used Slosophy Serum Cleanser exclusively for over a week to see if I would develop any closed comedones or other issues. My skin stayed clear and looked and felt just as clean as it did with my typical double cleansing. I’m also happy that it didn’t irritate my eyes at all.

My one small gripe is with the packaging - because the serum cleanser is quite thick, and the opening in the flip top lid is on the small side, it takes some shaking to get it to come out. Packaging like that makes me think of the old school shaker weight commercials (remember those? Back when we watched late night TV instead of TikTok to kill time). Anyway, it’s a small thing and not a deal breaker. If it were up to me, I would put this into a pump dispenser.

This was my first experience with Slosophy (I’ve had another product of theirs since then, review coming soon), and it got me very curious about the brand. So I’m definitely keeping my eye out on what else they may release.

I don’t have a full list of ingredients. I did reach out to the brand but haven’t heard back yet. If they send it to me, I will update the review. Overall, I think it’s worth a try, especially for people who want to have a one step cleanser and don’t want a foaming one.
