When I first got into kbeauty, I loved discovering new product categories. My collection of creams, face washes and serums was growing to impressive sizes, and there were only so many of each product one could use. However, discovering a new category meant more exciting shopping! Eye patches were one of those finds. Now, over five years later, I have some sort of eye mask in my skincare organizer at all times.
My most recent ones were WELLDERMA Collagen Impact Sapphire Eye Mask, available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), and Jolse.
These promise to moisturize loose skin around eyes, lips, and the forehead and are enriched with hydrolyzed collagen.
How to use
Apply after cleansing
Leave on for 20-30 minutes
Remove and dispose of the masks, pat the remaining essence in
Finish with moisturizer
The patches are smooth and slippery (as hydrogel tends to be), but start to adhere quite well as they warm up on the skin. They are very fragrant but the scent is pleasant. People who suffer from morning swelling and puffiness might enjoy using these in the morning (bonus points for storing them in the fridge for a cooling effect). I don’t have much time or energy in the mornings, so I reserve these for evening use. I like to cleanse my face, apply a toner and maybe an essence all over, then use the patches while I moisturize the body. Once I’m done with the patches, I might do another layer of a watery essence on the face if the skin feels dry, and finish with an occlusive layer of cream. Another way to use these would be under a sheet mask, especially if the mask isn’t ideal for the under eyes or if the cutouts around the eyes are too large to treat that area.
My impressions
These are fine. They are no better or worse than any other hydrogel patch. Unpopular opinion, but I think most eye patches are the same (other than color and scent). It’s rare that a particular brand stands out. The WELLDERMA ones might not be suitable for people who don’t like strong scents or are sensitive to fragrance, but other than that they are as good as the rest.
To me, the main benefit of eye patches comes from having targeted hydration in the area. Brands like to make big claims in regards to the ingredients, but the results I see are pretty much the same from all makes. I notice smoother, plumper under eye, nasolabial and forehead zones. I do not put these all over the forehead, just on top of the couple of deep lines that are prominent.
With this specific jar, I ended up passing about half of it to a friend, because I have other eye patches waiting to be used and because I thought she’d enjoy them. I haven’t heard her feedback yet, but my guess would be she’s impressed, simply because it’s her first ever eye mask like this. When you go from using nothing to something, the results are typically quite noticeable.
Overall, if you are in the market for eye patches, choose the brand that appeals to you based on price, color, and scent, and not based on marketing claims or the star ingredients (unless you are allergic to something specific).
