Dermatory Allantoin Hypoallergenic Moisturizing Toner Review

A few months ago, I was on the hunt for a very specific type of toner - it had to be fragrance free, without peptides and growth factors, without BHA and retinol, and with ingredients as “clean” as possible. It also needed to be moisturizing without being heavy, and suitable for my combination skin. Why such a long list of requirements? Because in July of 2018 I found out I was pregnant with our second baby. I am not a doctor, and some might argue with me that these ingredients are perfectly fine. But for me, I choose to be quite risk averse during this time, because products typically do not get tested on pregnant women, and some of the innovative Korean and European beauty ingredients are simply too new for anyone to know their long term effects.

So what did I end up getting? The Dermatory Allantoin Hypoallergenic Moisturizing Toner. It’s available on eBay, Amazon, Jolse, and YesStyle.

Why I chose this specific product:

  • EWG (Environmental Working Group) green/safe allantoin that soothes the skin

  • Centella asiatica - another soothing ingredient that helps heal irritation and acne

  • 20-free (meaning, 20 controversial and potentially harmful ingredients are not included)

  • Hypoallergenic

  • Moisturizing

  • Large bottle - 300ml / 10.14 fl oz

  • Light, watery texture that aids in quick absorption

  • Suitable for all skin types

The bottle design also appealed to me. The label makes it look like an old time North American apothecary medication, and the flip top lid looked more convenient to use than a screw on caps of most toners.

How to use:

  • Apply to skin after cleansing, morning or night (or both)

  • Can be layered for the 7 skin method

My impressions:

This toner was exactly what I needed. It’s completely fragrance free and doesn’t have a scent at all, not even whatever would come naturally from the ingredients (fragrance-free simply means “no added fragrance”, it doesn’t mean the product has no natural scent). It has the consistency of water and layers beautifully if extra hydration is needed. Because there are no crazy active ingredients, it works very well with any other Korean beauty products on my shelves. I also use it right before sheet masks. If you are looking for a simple yet effective hydrating toner, give this one a try. If you are interested in more toner reviews, they are here.
