Chinese beauty brands are slowly gaining popularity with the US audience, and I’m seeing some professional makeup artists and content creators mention cbeauty, even if they normally do not focus on Asian brands. I’m not immune to FOMO (fear of missing out), plus unique packaging and affordable pricing make cbeauty an attractive choice. My latest purchase is GIRLCULT Miao Psychic Series Multi-Use Cream Blusher, available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT). I’ve been curious about this brand for a while, thanks to the edgy packaging, but the colors are often outside of my comfort zone. The Cream Blusher, however, seemed wearable.

GIRLCULT Miao Psychic Series Multi-Use Cream Blusher draws inspiration from the Miao people - “a diverse group with a rich culture and history, traditionally residing in mountainous regions of southern China, northern Vietnam, and Laos, known for their unique clothing, weaving, and folk spirituality”. The silver casing and fabric topper (that’s right, the black textured piece on the lid is cloth) represent the jewelry and batik of the Miao. I know embarrassingly little about Chinese culture and history, so it was an interesting side quest to read more about it while researching brand origins. Sometimes, makeup is more than a superficial beautification tool.
GIRLCULT Miao blushers come in two colors - 25 Sunburn and 26 Clay Doll. Sunburn is described as “peach milk orange color” and Clay Doll as “gray brown cream contouring”. I chose Sunburn as it sounded more up my alley. I’m very pale and not good at contouring.
How to use
Apply to desired areas using a brush or fingers
I use my fingers, because it’s the fastest and easiest way. The blush is creamy, easy to spread, and has a matte finish. The little sun embossing was nearly gone within the first couple of uses, further showing the soft texture of the makeup. Despite the matte / natural finish, the blusher isn’t drying at all.

Keep in mind that I am still getting used to seeing more than just mascara on my face, so I tend to be light handed with blush. GIRLCULT Cream Blusher is a buildable product and you can get as dramatic as you’d like. I like to see a bit of color on my skin while still looking mostly like myself. Don’t think that what is pictured is the color limit of this product - it’s not.
My impressions
I LOVE THIS! I feel like I finally struck blush gold - it’s so good! Buying makeup and using it are often two separate hobbies, but GIRLCULT is easy to apply and looks so nice that I end up reaching for it all the time. The color is interesting and unlike anything I’ve had before. For years, I gravitated toward peachy tones, and then expanded into some pinks and even lavenders, but this Sunburn color is better than all of those. It makes me think of terracotta and traditional Greek vases with a clay brown base.

The case is well made and feels sturdy and expensive. Anything can be made to look good in pictures, but this one is lovely in real life as well. I am already eyeing GIRLCULT highlighters in similar packaging.

A little while ago, Unleashia Sisua blusher went viral, with many influencers showing videos of pushing on the quilted-looking product and having it somewhat bounce back. I gave into the hype, tried it, and wasn’t impressed - beyond the interesting format / product look, the blush didn’t have enough color payoff and didn’t spark joy for me. GIRLCULT, however, healed that disappointment. I think it would go viral if people knew about it (or if the brand had the marketing genius of Unleashia).

Besides being fun to use, the Cream Blusher has great staying power. I still see it on my cheeks 10+ hours later. I do not know how it would do in extreme heat, humidity, or while exercising, but it does great in my regular day-to-day life of office work, parenting, cooking, and so on.
If you are on the fence about trying some cbeaty, take the plunge - you might find your next holy grail!
