Last year, I started experimenting with Chinese makeup brands, especially after striking gold with GIRLCULT blush. Pricing, packaging, and color options were simply too good to pass up.
Maffick Planet Shine Chameleon Eyeshadows were so beautiful that I had to try one. There are 5 colors available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT). I chose 06 Hidden Gold.
Maffick promises smooth, “soft and silky mud texture”. That sounds like cream eyeshadow to me, but it wasn’t. Definitely not a dry formula, but not “mud” either. Something in between.
How to use
Apply to eyelids
I love and hate the packaging. The round planet looks really cool, but the lid is tricky to open. It needs a more permanent pull tab or some other mechanism to make it more accessible and less annoying.
My impressions
Unfortunately, this wasn’t wearable for me. Looking back at the marketing images, the arm swatches show a black base color, but the pictures on the model’s face do not. I expected a beautiful mermaid-space-alien purple, but not something with a dark base. And it’s not even purple! I see a shimmer, but it’s on the warm, brown side, not at all what it looks like in the package.
That’s not to say Maffick Plane Shine is a bad product - it’s not. It’s simply not for me. We did use it for halloween makeup for my daughter and it looked awesome, was easy to apply and lasted the entire night, even through all the trick-or-treating and running. The price is beyond reasonable as well. If you can find your color, definitely go for it.
