Aromatica LIVELY Super Calming Blue Oil Review

I have been very into Korean beauty and skincare for about three years now. In that time, I’ve had countless toners, emulsions, peeling gels, etc. But I’ve only had a few facial oils (aside from cleansing oils).

As a person with combination skin, I mistakenly assumed that facial oils were for dry skin only (my skin is combination). Plus years of Western advertisement had me convinced that “oil free” is the way to go. In reality, so much depends on the oil.

I recently discovered the new to me Korean cosmetics brand Aromatica. The company uses clean and nontoxic ingredients to produce effective and safe skincare. One of the things I bought was the Aromatica LIVELY Super Calming Blue Oil. The aesthetic ecstasy of this product begins with the packaging - a glass dropper bottle with 30ml of beautiful blue oil. I want to go touch it as I’m typing this. You can see it “in motion” in my redness and inflammation tips video.

The oil has its wonderful blue color due to the azulene in the ingredients. Azulene oil is steam distilled from chamomile, yarrow, or blue tansy plants. Clinical studies show it to have a strong anti-inflammatory effect. Aromatica LIVELY Super Calming Blue Oil is made without silicones and mineral oils and will not clog pores (a full ingredients list is at the end of the review). It’s sold on eBay, Jolse and YesStyle.

How to use:

  • Apply a few drops to the face after #toner

  • Gently massage in

After that, I simply go to bed (or try to - the baby has other ideas, occasionally). If you have the desire for something else on top, you can apply #cream or a sleeping mask. The oil alone is usually enough for me. Plus, I started using it in the summer, and in the heat of a midwestern July, I didn’t want lots of layers on my skin. This oil can be used in the morning. Allow the product to thoroughly sink in, then continue with the rest of your skincare. This would be especially good for people with dry skin or during the dry Fall and Winter seasons.

My impressions:

What a luxurious oil (without the luxury price tag). For me, it’s been very effective in calming the skin and evening out discoloration. By morning, any signs of redness and irritation are usually gone. The skin is very soft to the touch; there’s a healthy glow without an oily shine. Aromatica LIVELY Super Calming Blue Oil doesn’t clog pores and should be suitable for any skin types, even the sensitive ones (although it’s impossible to guarantee anything when it comes to sensitive skin).

The size is quite generous, especially considering that you only need a couple of drops at each use. The clean / safe ingredients list is a huge selling point for me. I’m definitely adding more Aromatica products to my cart next time I do a big haul.
