AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule Review

AXIS-Y is quickly becoming one of my favorite Korean skincare companies. What really stands out is the brand’s focus on the climate and its effects on the skin. Their 6+1+1 Advanced Formula skincare (611) was developed specifically for people with acne-prone, oily skin who live in a humid climate. 611 means 6 key / active ingredients, 1 core ingredient, and 1 patented technology. You can read my reviews for their cleanser, mugwort mask, and sunscreen by clicking on the links.

My latest AXIS-Y obsession is their Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule. It came to me as part of the AMT (Asia Master Trade) box - watch my unboxing video here. The boxes are not currently sold to the public, but their contents can be purchased individually. AXIS-Y artichoke ampoule is sold on* YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for an extra discount) and their official website.

The AMT #1 BARRIER PROTECTION Box Contained:

  • AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule 30ml

  • Dr. Jart+ DERMASK™ Water Jet Vital Hydra Solution 2x

  • KRAVE Beauty Great Skin Barrier Relief

AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule promises to hydrate and help with moisture retention, soothe inflamed and irritated skin, and support a healthy barrier function. The ampoule is designed to work with all skin types. The star ingredient - artichoke - supports the cellular wall structure and helps pores look smaller. Other beneficial ingredients include centella asiatica, tea tree, aloe, sugar cane, licorice, and okra. A full list is available at the end of the review.

The product is vegan, cruelty free, and made without mineral oils, artificial fragrances / colors, and parabens.

How to use:

  • Apply to clean skin after toner

  • Gently pat in

  • Follow with moisturizer (or SPF in the morning)

This can also be mixed in with foundation to make it more moisturizing. Store away from sunlight. The product color may become slightly yellow if exposed to heat and light - it is still safe to use and just as effective.

The clear ampoule (and mine is still clear weeks in - I keep it in my bathroom) comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. There is a bit of a scent, perhaps from the tea tree, but it’s barely noticeable (I had to bring my palms right up to my nose to notice anything). The scent does not linger and is slightly medicinal. The ampoule is not sticky or greasy and very pleasant to use. I typically apply at night, after toner (and sometimes essence), because I have more time for skincare at night. Using this in the morning is perfectly fine as well.

My impressions

AXIS-Y Artichoke Ampoule glides on effortlessly, so I always enjoy the application process. While I know packaging has little to do with efficacy, I love that this comes in glass. There’s something about glass jars and bottles that instantly ups the level of enjoyment I get from skincare.

I have combination skin that’s not particularly sensitive, but it’s prone to redness (I’m very pale) and occasional breakouts. Wearing masks for the past 12 months isn’t helping, either.

I am very impressed with this ampoule so far (I’ve been using it for close to a month on a regular basis). It helps calm down redness, whether from mechanical things like scratching an itch or from breakouts. I love that the formula isn’t sticky or heavy. My skin is so happy. While I have definitely enjoyed a fair share of centella products in the past, I think artichoke here makes everything work even better. Hyaluronic acid results in a plumping effect on fine lines and wrinkles. I’m pleased to report that my pores do, indeed, look a bit smaller.

While it’s hard to definitively isolate the effects of one specific product when you have an entire routine of different treatments, I will most definitely continue to use this and wouldn’t mind getting / purchasing this again. AXIS-Y is exactly the kind of brand discovery that I enjoy. Brands like this is why I love blogging.
