AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack Review

I think mugwort is the new centella asiatica - it’s an amazing ingredient, so it makes perfect sense that more and more brands are getting on board and adding it to their formulations. You can often find it in products designed for acne prone, irritated skin.

AXIS-Y is a new to me brand of Korean skincare that uses high quality ingredients. What really stands out is the brand’s focus on the climate and its effects on the skin. Their 6+1+1 Advanced Formula skincare (611) was developed specifically for people with acne-prone, oily skin who live in a humid climate. 611 means 6 key / active ingredients, 1 core ingredient, and 1 patented technology.

I chose a few of their products (watch the unboxing video here) to try and see if they would work for my combination skin in the Midwest. You can find out more about the brand on their website and Instagram.

Today’s review is about AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack. It’s sold on* YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for an extra discount) and their official website.

AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack promises to clear pores, soothe irritated skin, and gently exfoliate in the process. The little pieces seen in the clay base are adzuki bean granules that help with the exfoliation part. This mask was specifically formulated to help the users relax, unwind, and treat the dreaded “maskne” of 2020.

The 6+1+1 formula in this case refers to 6 plant extracts to exfoliate and restore the skin, 1 core ingredient (61% mugwort extract), and 1 special patented technology (Dermatic AC 3). The mask is cruelty free, vegan, made without parabens, mineral oil, and artificial colors / fragrances.

How to use:

  • Cleanse and dry the face (I leave mine a little moist)

  • Apply an even layer to the face, avoiding eye and lip areas

  • Rinse off after about 15 minutes, using gentle circular motions

Use 2-3 times a week.

The official instructions say to allow the mask to dry and harden, and then rinse. But for my skin, that would be too harsh. From years of using all kinds of clay masks, I know that my skin reacts best when I don’t allow the product to harden. I still get all the benefits of the mask. Try it both ways and see what works better for your skin.

I like using my clay masks while soaking in a hot bath. The steam helps all products penetrate better, and the humidity prevents the masks from drying out too quickly. Plus, rinsing masks in the bath or shower is a lot easier and less messy than using a sink.

My impressions

AXIS-Y mugwort mask didn’t disappoint! I love having a good soothing product like this on hand, in case my skin decides to freak out. There’s a bit of an herbal/minty scent that I find pleasant. The mask is very creamy and easy to apply. I like the little bean beads - they are smooth and not scratchy and provide a gentle massage / exfoliation at the application and rinsing steps.

I absolutely love what this product does for my pores. Most clay masks have a temporary “pore shrinking” effect, but AXIS-Y seems to be the best at that and takes it to the next level. My pores look so much smaller and cleaner. Most importantly, this is achieved without drying out or irritating the skin.

As far as soothing, no complaints here either. The mask visibly calms down my redness and helps breakouts heal quicker. Sometimes I wish I could use it daily. My only “complaint” with this product is I wish the tub were bigger. I seriously don’t want to run out, ever. In fact, I just used it again tonight and my face is looking great.
