I love primers! Most days, I don’t wear complexion products (other than powder), but I still love a good primer to keep the skin shine free and looking nearly poreless. My tried and true go to is the Touch in Sol hybrid primer, but it’s good to try new things, so I ordered Canmake Poreless Airy Base as well. This Japanese product is available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and Stylevana (code INF10KBH).

Canmake Poreless Airy Base Primer

Canmake promises a soft, souffle-like product that conceals pores and texture. Two colors are available - Pure White and Natural Beige. I chose white, because beige might be too dark for my fair skin. I didn’t want to risk it.

How to use

  • Use after skincare / sunscreen and before makeup

  • Apply the equivalent of 1-2 grains of rice to the face

  • Gently massage to spread

  • Follow with desired makeup / complexion products

Realistic expectations are important - while this primer does help conceal some texture, mainly pores, it will not hide more prominent scars, pits, and so on.

My impressions

Overall, I like this Canmake Poreless Airy Base Primer. It’s easy to apply and does a fair job mattifying the face throughout the day. I can’t help but compare it to Touch in Sol, and I prefer the latter. Touch in Sol has a slightly smoother / creamier texture and doesn’t alter the color of my skin at all (Canmake does look white immediately after application and makes the skin a bit lighter even when rubbed in). I also prefer pump dispensers to dip jars.

Canmake still has its advantages. If you travel a lot, Canmake is definitely more portable and takes up less space. I reach for this on days when I wear makeup or skin tints. It does a good job hiding pores on the nose and cheeks, and the slight “whiteout” effect disappears when makeup is used on top.

Canmake Poreless Airy Base Primer

Overall, I’m not mad at this primer and I will use it up. But it’s not my Holy Grail.
