Etude Tinting Eyeliner Review

Finding a good eyeliner for my hooded eyes is a chore. A lot of them smudge or imprint on the upper lid, slide around, and end up looking terrible by mid morning. I switched to Korean and Japanese liners a few years ago and never looked back. Solid black and brown formulas can get a little boring - I decided to try something new this time.

Etude Tinting Eyeliner is a subtle makeup product that accentuates the eyes while still looking natural. Jolse has in a couple of colors; I chose #01 SOFT DEEP BROWN. Instead of creating a solid line, it looks a little see through, reminiscent of watercolors.

The formula is long lasting and waterproof, but comes off easily with regular cleansing oil. I’ve had no smudging, transferring, or printing, even after taking a short nap.

My impressions

I wasn’t too sure about this Etude eyeliner at first, but the more I use it, the more I like it. It’s definitely a different look from the solid black I’m used to, and yet I enjoy it almost as much if not more. Most days, I don’t wear any makeup other than mascara and brow cara, so having a bit of a soft liner makes a big difference. I love that even without eyeshadow, my face looks “complete” but not overdone. Since it’s a pen liner, the application is quick and easy.

One thing to note is going over the same spot over and over can move the pigment around and cause uneven coverage. Try to get your line how you want it from the first try (I am laughing as I type this - who ever gets their winged liner right on the first try?!). If corrections are needed, let the makeup dry a bit before going over it again - that solves the issue.

I’m so glad I tried this - way less intimidating and time consuming than solid black liners. I still like those for a dramatic look, but prefer the tinting version for more subtle daily wear.
