I enjoy getting to know smaller Korean beauty brands, it feels like I’m discovering something unknown to the general population. But what’s really cool is when those brands become more popular and expand their lineup. It’s almost like I knew them “before they were cool”, and it’s a fun feeling. One of these brands is Huangjisoo.
Huangjisoo was founded by Dr. Huang Ji Soo whose mother had atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Dr. Huang Ji Soo wanted to create products that could treat skin issues in more natural ways without relying on strong prescription medications; her brand is for everyone, including people with skin conditions like her mother’s (personal note - please see a dermatologist if you have serious issues that require medical attention; do not take advice of a blogger online).
Their cleansing oil (review here) is one of my favorite first step cleansers. Today’s review is for another worthy product - Huangjisoo Sakura Peeling Pads. I received mine as a gift, but they can be bought on* eBay, Amazon, and Facetory. I started out with a sachet of 10, and then received a full sized jar with a flip top lid.
These pads are vegan, cruelty free, and made from 99.5% natural, organic ingredients. They promise to moisturize, brighten, and gently exfoliate. The jar contains 60 pads.
Star ingredients:
Cherry blossom - improves dull skin
Echinacea - supports a healthy skin barrier and helps with moisture retention
PHA - gentle exfoliation suitable for daily use
The pads are quite large, with one embossed and one smoother side.
How to use:
Swipe over the face at the toner step (after cleansing)
Can be used in the morning and/or evening
My impressions
I’ve been using these for quite some time, I’m not even sure for how long. My jar is almost empty. I usually do not wash my face in the morning, so having a toner pad to gently wipe off any remnants of evening skincare is really convenient.
Not related to the skincare benefits, but a really nice convenience perk is the flip top lid. I like that so much more than twist off lids - you only need one hand to open the jar.
Despite an acid - PHA - in the ingredients, these pads are very very gentle. I wouldn’t even consider them an exfoliating step. My combination skin loves them. I still use my normal exfoliation 1-2 times a week in the form of peeling gels or designated peeling pads. Huangjisoo pads, at least to me, are a toner.
There’s a faint scent that doesn’t bother me. I don’t like strong fragrances, but this one is fine. Huangjisoo Sakura Peeling Pads are really nice. Do not confuse them with the 1-2 times a week peeling pads like Neogen (review here). These are more like the Purito pads (review here) or Cosrx (review here) - completely fine for daily use.
Have you tried any Huangjisoo products? What did you think?
