I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions (I have enough on my to-do list without that), but one of the things I’ve been trying to do this year is put a little bit more effort into my “everyday face”. Sometimes that means adding a touch of eyeshadow to my typical mascara-powder combo, and other times it’s using a bit of a complexion product for a more refreshed overall appearance.

I’ve been intrigued by the seemingly new makeup category - skin tints - and decided to try one. JAVIN DE SEOUL HUGGING SKIN TINT, available on Jolse, is a see through hugging tint that combines makeup and skincare. It lets your natural skin shine while providing a gentle tone up effect. The product comes in 5 shades; I picked the lightest 01 Airy Bloom.

The brand advertises a cooling effect from the glacial water in the ingredients. I do not notice any cooling when using the skin tint.

How to use

  • Gently shake before using

  • Apply with a wet puff for a dewy look or with a dry puff for a powdery finish

From experience, no matter how I apply Javin de Seoul, the finish is slightly dewy. I top it off with a thin layer of powder as I prefer a more matte appearance.

The coverage is light, making the skin look more even but not fully hiding all imperfections. As someone who’s not great at makeup, I prefer this type of look vs attempting to camouflage all the blemishes perfectly (because it ends up looking cakey on me). I’m looking for “my skin but better”, and Javin de Seoul gives me that.

The texture is very liquid, like a light lotion or even more runny. Typically, I would use my hands to apply something on a weekday morning, but here a sponge blender works much better (and less messy).

While the product has SPF50 PA+++ rating, I would not rely on it as the only source of sun protection. I always start with a good layer of sunscreen and see any additional SPF in makeup as a nice bonus. Most people, including myself, do not apply enough makeup and don’t cover the eyes, ears, and neck to get the stated SPF protection.

My impressions

This is such a complicated review to write! Do I love this tint? Yes. And no. Kind of? It was even featured in one of my Fails & Faves videos (as a fave), but the more I wear it the less I’m sure what to think. I like the light yet helpful coverage, the color matches my skin well, and it’s so easy to apply. My biggest gripe is the seemingly inconsistent performance. Some days, it lasts me most of the day just fine. But other days it settles into pores and shifts around. I think it all depends on how oily my t-zone gets on any given day. The oilier, the more issues with Javin. One simple way to mitigate the issue is to use a primer first, but that requires an extra step and I’m so, so tired and unmotivated in the mornings. The struggle is real. Someone with dry or normal skin will probably have more consistent results.

Anyway, it’s a good product, it’s just not as effortless as I would have liked. It requires a tiny bit of prep, and then there are no issues. I will continue using it but not positive I’d get it again. For me, a good tone up sunscreen offers a less cumbersome way to achieve similar results.
