Pyunkang Yul Limited Edition Moisture Skincare Set Review - StyleKorean Try Me Review Me

I read and hear about Pyunkang Yul all the time, but until recently have never had the pleasure of trying it. The brand was started by a famous Pyunkang Oriental Medicine Clinic in Korea and focuses on gentle, safe ingredients.

I was thrilled to win the Style Korean’s Try Me Review Me for a Pyunkang Yul gift set. You can purchase that set here or any other Pyunkang Yul products here. All of these items are made without artificial colors or fragrances and are hypoallergenic.

The set includes:

  • Essence toner 200ml - with 91.3% milk vetch root extract, this thick and viscous toner intensely hydrates and replenishes the skin.

  • Moisture serum 100ml - maintains a healthy oil-water balance and prevents water loss, while barberry root extract cools the skin.

  • Nutrition cream 100ml - an intensely hydrating thick (but not greasy) cream for a glowing, healthy complexion.

To avoid an overly lengthy article, I’m including only brief descriptions of each item from the brand, and focusing on my own experiences with each product. My impressions

I rarely get a whole (or a good chunk) of a routine to test, so I thought I’d dive right in and use all three products together, the way they were meant to be experienced. I still, of course, added my own cleansers and occasional treatments.

I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-to-normal cheeks. I suffer from occasional breakouts and redness.

Spoiler alert - I really love this set. I’m typically not a fan of gifting people full or nearly-full-sized products, but this would be an exception. I really think these items would work for most people. So if you are looking to introduce someone to the wonderful world of Korean beauty, this could be a great option.

The essence toner is wonderfully thick but still absorbs well. It glides onto the skin - the whole application process is a treat. My skin soaks it right up, especially on days I exfoliate. This would work well in the morning or at night, but I mostly use it in the evenings, since I have more time then.

The moisture serum is the star of this whole set for me. It’s thicker than most serums I tried, almost like an emulsion. Again, applying it is a pleasurable experience. Pyunkang Yul really nailed the texture of these products.

The most hydrating and nourishing routine would fall short without a great occlusive layer to hold in all of that goodness. This is where the nutrition cream shines. It’s a wonderful, rich moisturizer that babies the skin and makes it so soft and smooth. It’s not greasy or sticky. I use this in the evenings, but it should be just fine in the mornings, especially during the colder months, or for people with dry skin. I had to wear a winter coat to work this morning, so the season of dry indoor air and cold winds is here.

Does packaging do anything for the efficacy of the products? Not typically. But does it make me excited to use a particular item? Yes! Pyunkang Yul packaging deserves a special mention. The cream and serum bottles are glass (my favorite). I love the simple clean lines and the contrast between white labels and dark blue containers. It’s simply perfect without trying too hard.

My only tiny criticism is that the moisture serum would probably be better off in a pump bottle. It’s not too thick when it comes to application, but it’s almost too thick to be dispensed via a dropper. I’m just being picky here, it’s really not a deal breaker.

Typically, a nice scent contributes to the overall skincare ritual, but here it’s not needed. Each product is perfectly enough just the way it is, without any noticeable fragrance. And our sensitive skin friends would appreciate that, I’m sure.

My overall impression is overwhelmingly positive. That has nothing to do with the fact that I won this. If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you know I’m brutal when it comes to fails, no matter how they came into my possession.

The Pyunkang Yul Limited Edition Moisture Skincare Set has made my combination skin smooth and silky. It moisturized the dry areas without making the oily ones congested. It’s really a perfect trio of nourishing, soothing hydration. I’m impressed and curious about what else this brand has to offer.
