Rovectin Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector SPF50+ PA++++ Review

As promised, I have quite a few sunscreens to share with you in the coming days / weeks. I see sun protection as the most important skincare step; I never skip it. If you want to see my favorites, including swatches, then check out this video.

Spoiler alert - one of those favorites is Rovectin Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector SPF50+ PA++++. It’s available on Wishtrend (use the code LUCY15), YesStyle (save extra with reward code KBHOBBIT), Jolse, Stylevana, eBay, and Amazon.

Rovectin was already on my good side, because they make one of my favorite sunscreens ever (review here). However, that one is tinted and probably won’t work for all skin tones. The Rovectin Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector isn’t tinted and doesn’t leave a white cast, at least on me. This is an all-mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It promises to hydrate, brighten, and improve the appearance of wrinkles. I don’t necessarily look for extra benefits from my sunscreen - good sun protection is enough of a benefit. But, if there are some other good ingredients, then that’s a welcomed bonus.

How to use:

  • Apply generously as your last step before makeup (if using)

  • Don’t forget to cover around your eyes, ears, neck / sides of neck, and upper chest

  • Reapply every couple of hours, especially if outdoors

The product has the consistency of a light cream and a pleasant but noticeable scent (which doesn’t linger). It’s very easy to spread. There’s a bit of a shine right after application, but then it sets to a nice natural finish - not shiny and not overly matte. It’s not sticky and behaves well under makeup. You can see it “in person” here (start at 5:18 time):

The formula is vegan and cruelty free. It’s also marketed as hypoallergenic, which is an unregulated term and doesn’t mean much. I encourage everyone with known allergies and sensitivities to review the full ingredients list (available at the end of the review).

My impressions

This is lovely. So easy to use, great finish, no stickiness, no white cast - I love applying this sunscreen. For my combination skin, this is enough of a moisturizer in the mornings, so I don’t need another cream or lotion, at least during the warmer months (and yes, sunscreen should be used all year round).

My bathroom lights make everything look a little shinier than normal.

What else can I tell you about it? Ah, it doesn’t irritate the eyes, which is a big deal for me. So, A+ overall. I will happily continue using it and would definitely purchase it again.
