SCENEARTH Oh, Family Day Mild Sun SPF50+ PA++++ Review

SCENEARTH is one of kbeauty’s best kept secrets. I got my hands on a couple of items thanks to a friend who mailed them directly from Korea, but until somewhat recently, I couldn’t find them on any major sites. Finally, the brand is available on Olive Young (discount code KBHOBBIT77), so everyone who wants to try it can do so.

SCENEARTH Oh, Family Day Mild Sun SPF 50+ PA++++ promises to shield the skin from UV damage while restoring balance. It has a light texture with a natural “tone up” effect. The tone up part almost always raises red flags for me - more often than not, it means that some sort of a cast is to be expected… more on that later.

This is an all mineral formula with zinc oxide as the only filter. I like to have titanium as well, but I also appreciate a variety of sunscreen options to suit everyone’s preferences.

How to use

  • Apply at the end of your skincare routine

  • Reapply as needed

The formula is easy to spread (easier than most mineral SPFs I had). I don’t notice a scent. My fair skin shows minimal white cast.

My impressions

I like this sunscreen and use it regularly. It gives a natural / matte (ish) finish without drying out the skin. My bathroom lighting makes everything look a bit shinier than it actually is. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone but dry cheeks, so finding balance is very important.

If I didn’t read the marketing materials, I wouldn’t have known that this is a tone up sunscreen. It does leave a tiny bit of barely visible cast on my fair skin, likely due to zinc oxide in the ingredients, but for me it’s not a big deal. Someone with a deeper skin tone may have a different experience. I wouldn’t say it “tones up” or hides any imperfections.

But overall, I like the formula and it works well for my skin. I don’t get excessive shine or any dryness, and it doesn’t leave white streaks on my collars. It’s not life changing by any means, and I will not actively try to get it again. But if another tube lands in my lap, I’ll happily use it up.
