VDL Expert Color Primer for Eyes Review

I’ve been meaning to try VDL for some time, after seeing lots of positive reviews about their primers. I’m currently all good on face primer, but have no eyeshadow primers so I chose VDL Expert Color Primer for Eyes. It’s available on Jolse and comes in 3 colors.

VDL Expert Color Primer for Eyes

Original: For better color payoff of eyeshadow.

Shimmer: As a base eyeshadow for natural eye makeup.

Serenity: For matte type eyeshadow or the improvement of dark eye area.

I chose Serenity, hoping that the slight blue tones may make some of my warm eyeshadow shades a bit cooler.

How to use

  • Gently sweep over eyelids

  • Blend in with fingertips

  • Let dry for about 1 minute

  • Apply eyeshadow as usual

The primer is very easy to apply. It feels matte on the lids and looks a little blue, but no color is noticeable once makeup is applied over the top - even if the eyeshadow is very light.

My impressions

I probably should have been using eye primer this whole time. I used to have one, but never reached for it and eventually tossed it out when it expired. As a very occasional eyeshadow wearer, I didn’t think a primer is a necessity. But I’ve been playing with makeup more lately, trying new / more complex looks.

The VDL Expert Color Primer for Eyes creates a perfect canvas on my hooded, oily eyelids. It doesn’t feel like anything once blended in, but prevents caking and creasing really well. It grips the shadows but blending the colors is still easy.

I like the convenience of the fuzzy doe foot applicator. Overall, absolutely nothing bad to say - I will continue to use this and would love to try the other two colors to see how the effects differ. One thing to note - while most eyeshadow colors don’t get cooler with this primer, some brown/golds can appear slightly green. But the rest - browns, pinks, beiges, etc - look the same as they do over bare skin.
