Purito Defence Barrier pH Cleanser Review

Updated: Oct 24, 2020

Effective cleansing is the foundation of any successful skincare routine. But finding a cleanser that’s both effective and gentle is not always easy. Purito is a relatively new Korean skincare brand that specializes in mild, safe products with gentle ingredients. I have tried most of their line up, and haven’t yet met a product that didn’t work for me. Purito Defence Barrier pH Cleanser is a foaming wash for all skin types. It's available on eBay, Amazon, and Eopenmarket.

Active ingredients:

  • Tea tree oil - soothes the skin, regulates sebum production, kills bacteria

  • Centella asiatica - soothes inflammation, reduces redness, increases cellular regeneration, stimulates collagen production

  • Royal jelly extract - contains 16 types of vitamins which moisturize and support a healthy skin barrier, improve the look of fine lines, and help even out the skin tone

  • Grapefruit extract - a great source of natural vitamin C to brighten the skin

The healthiest pH level for the skin is between 4.5 and 6.0. This purito cleanser has a pH of 5.5 that helps keep the skin’s pH optimal.

Here’s the brand’s video of the pH test:

How to use:

  • In the morning, foam the cleanser in your palms and gently massage over wet face. Rinse off with water.

  • In the evening, use as the second step of double cleansing.

Note: in Korean skincare, double cleansing is popular to remove all of the BB cream, other makeup, and sunscreen from the skin. The first step is a cleansing oil, and the second step is a foaming cleanser. To read more about the order of Korean skincare routines, please refer to the For Beginners section.

Like all Purito products, this cleanser is made with EWG certified green (safe) ingredients. It’s 10-free, which means it doesn’t contain parabens, mineral oils, paraffin, colorants, ethanol, triethanolamine, benzophenone, phthalates, formaldehyde, BHT.

My impressions:

I have used this cleanser off and on since 2017 - I order tons of Korean skincare and often the packages come with free samples, so I had a lot of this wash in sample packets. In fact, I used it exclusively on a business trip in January 2018. It’s actually my favorite morning cleanser - very gentle yet effective and causes absolutely no dryness. Once a week, I give my skin a rest day and don’t use any products on it to make sure it knows how to self-regulate. I started that in the winter. Now that it’s sunny and SPF is absolutely not optional, I went from “nothing but water” rest day to “SPF and a cleanser at night” day. And this cleanser is my favorite because the skin feels clean but supple after using it and I can skip everything else. There’s practically no scent (very mild, probably from the tea tree oil), which makes it an ideal “share with your partner” product.

It will work for any skin type as it cleanses oily and combination skin effectively and won’t over-strip dry skin types. But especially if you have sensitive, acne-prone skin - try it.
