One of the best parts of being a content creator is getting brand DMs along the lines of “we want to send you something - NO STRINGS attached. Please try it if you can, or don’t. We’d love some feedback if you feel like it”. I almost always agree, and almost always provide feedback and a review. These brand requests come from a genuine place of wanting to improve the product and not from entitlement. In contrast, some brands reach out with a long list of required deliverables that they want fulfilled in exchange for a $2 makeup sponge. And they call that a gift (that’s barter, not a gift).

Guess which category I.DARE falls into? And to be clear, there is nothing wrong with not having marketing budgets for collaboration, especially when brands are just starting out. But then expectations of unpaid labor should also be adjusted. I.DARE is doing things right, and I’ve been testing their products for several months.

I.DARE Be There In Five Oil to Foam Cleanser is a gentle 2-in-1 formula that promises to remove makeup and impurities while supporting healthy skin. It features fermented ingredients for a balanced skin microbiome - something I rarely see in a cleanser. I.DARE is available on Amazon.

How to use

• Apply to a dry face with clean, dry hands (the way you’d use a cleansing oil)

• Massage

• Add water - the cleanser will foam

• Massage more, then rinse

• Follow with the rest of your routine

This is more of a “gel to foam” formula vs a true oil. It’s still easy to spread over the skin, but not as liquid as most cleansing oils or even cleansing balms; it doesn’t melt the same way. But that also means that I.DARE cleanser doesn’t drip - it’s much easier to use in a neat, controller fashion than a traditional oil cleanser. The scent is light and pleasant, I don’t notice it unless I try to specifically pay attention.

I have combination skin with occasional sensitivities, and I.DARE Be There In Five cleanser does a great job removing sunscreen and makeup without irritating my skin. I even used it to take off eyeliner without issues. If you have sensitive skin, please do patch testing - your experience may vary.

It takes a little more time and effort to rinse I.DARE off the skin vs other cleansers I tried, but it probably evens itself out when you consider the time and cost savings of having a 2-in-1 product vs two separate steps.

My impressions

This is a good option for people who want an effective one-step cleanser or whose teens and husbands can’t be bothered to add a separate cleansing oil step. I love my cleansing oils and balms, it’s one of my favorite evening routine steps, but I.DARE found a place on my shelf as well. I reach for it on weekends when I don’t wear makeup - it does a great job removing sunscreen and saves my cleansing oils for days when I have more “war paint” on. To reiterate - I.DARE does a good job removing makeup as well, but I prefer the sensorial experience of a cleansing oil on my eyes vs a gel.

The packaging deserves a special mention - I love the locking dispenser that doesn’t involve a separate lid. You can lock, unlock and dispense the I.DARE cleanser with one hand. I wish more brands did this! And the bright, bold colors always lift my mood as well. It’s a fun product and should appeal to the younger demographic.

If you are in the market for a good 2-in-1 cleanser, or if your non-skincare obsessed family is resisting cleansing oils, consider I.DARE Be There In Five Oil to Foam Cleanser - it’s very nice and effective.
