SNP Split Ends Hair Mask - Prevention and Repair - Review

I have straight, fine hair that’s treated with henna. I’m trying to grow it out (it’s currently a little past my shoulders), because I find long hair easier to deal with (quick buns and braids) and I think it looks better on me.

It’s pretty much impossible to have long, healthy hair if it tangles and splits. I’ve already reviewed my beloved overnight SNP hair masks (read about them here), and today I will tell you all about their “ponytail” masks - SNP Split Ends Prevention and SNP Split Ends Repair. Both varieties are available on eBay.

Each kit is a two step process. The first step is a restorative mask in a specially designed baggie; the second step is a leave-in serum. The Prevention mask contains shea butter and hydrolyzed keratin. The Repair mask contains virgin coconut oil and & plant proteins.

Both are made without parabens, mineral oil, gluten, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrolatum and phthalates.

How to use:

  • Wash your hair

  • Carefully gather it into a ponytail

  • Put your hand into the Step 1 bag (like a glove), turning the bag inside out. Gather the hair inside, turn the bag the right side out and tie the little tails

  • Leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes. I usually do this while taking a bath and don’t track the time too carefully

  • Remove the bag and rinse your hair.

  • Apply the serum and do not rinse it. As I mentioned, my hair is past my shoulders now, but if I use all of the serum from the kit, it’s definitely too much and the hair doesn’t look clean. So, use it sparingly and only apply from about the level of the ears and to the ends.

My impressions:

Awesome masks! I think the effect from both is about the same, even though one is Repair and one is Prevent. The hair is very smooth, sleek (not greasy or oily) and tangle free. It's very easy to comb and style, even though I'm usually a fan of simply letting it dry on its own.

My hair doesn’t split anyway, so I’m focusing on prevention here. If I had to choose just one, I would choose the orange pack as it’s a bit lighter in texture and feel. Perhaps the results are very different if you actually have split ends - maybe the repair one actually fixes them? Seems unlikely. The best way to get rid of already split hair is to trim it.
